Merry Christmas

The Mangoettes and I are on the road to Grandma's house for Christmas. We'll keep you posted on our travels. Mango's will be closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so that the hard working Mango's staff can enjoy some quality holiday time with their families.
Since we're heading south we made another stop in Richmond to hit Chockoe slip for a little dinner and to check out the lights.

Strange Holiday Tomorrow

National Flashlight Day
When : Always December 21
Don't be left in the dark on National Flashlight Day. The basic requirement for this day, is a flashlight and good batteries. Flick the switch, and you can put anything into your spotlight.
We'd like to shed a little light on this special day. National Flashlight Day arrives on Winter Solstice, which is the shortest day...and longest night.... of the year. "Watt" that means, is that there's lots and lots of darkness. With all of those dark hours, your flashlight is apt to get a good workout.
You never know when you will need a flashlight. National Flashlight Day is a good day to make sure you and your family know where the flashlights are. Test each flashlight, to be sure the batteries are good. When in doubt, replace the batteries with new ones. It is also a good idea to put a flashlight in your car.
Did You Know? The flashlight was invented in 1898 by Joshua Lionel Cowen. However, this wasn't his greatest invention. He also invented the Lionel train.

Butane Burner

We use these all the time during brunch and for catering sessions. I have three in the camper and we routinely use them to make omelletes for the masses. Powered by butane they generate a great deal of heat, easily boiling water. One butane can lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Available on line from Superior Restaurant Products, or drop by their retail outlet on General Washington Drive, behind Marlo furniture.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Concert
In the spirit of Christmas I took the Mangoettes to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra at the Verizon Center Sunday night.
This concert was the best Christmas concert I've ever attended. No strike that, it's the best CONCERT I've ever attended. Most over the top lighting show ever! LED's, lasers, strobes, pyrotechnics, you name the lighting and it was used. If you're looking for a entertaining, high energy Christmas show - this is the one to attend.
Even the teenage Mangoette's enjoyed the almost 3 hour show.

Buddies Christmas Dinner

This is the time of year you need to make time to get together with some of those long time friends. With my buddies Ron Buro and Rob ZImmerman, we try to get together once a year for the annual Buddies Christmas Dinner.
This year we fired up the RV and headed down to Richmond for dinner and a little southern sightseeing.
Mango at the wheel of the camper.
After dinner we headed up to a KOA campground in Fredericksburg for a bonfire, cigars and a lot of lies.
Tobacco Warehouse

We had a nice dinner at the Tobacco Warehouse. Thanks to the boys for picking up the tab. Great decorations with a stunning 20' Christmas tree jutting up from the bar into the atrium area.
The Plaza

Right on Carey Street up from Choco Slip.
The city does a great job of seasonal decorating. Plus having the major buildings in town outlined with white lights is impressive. Especially if you're heading into town via I-95.

RumNog Pecan Cookies

From the Food Section of the Washington Post - we may be making these soon at Mango', or you can make them and we'll trade for some Rum inspired cocktails.
Rummy, nutty and chewy, these would be delicious even without the icing, which adds sweetness and a second punch of rum flavor. Rum extract, which contains a trace of the alcohol found in rum, or apple cider can be substituted for the rum.

Sorry Debbie, maybe next year.
World's Most Disgusting Shooter

We had the annual Mango Mike's, Ramparts, Simply Fish Staff Christmas Party on Sunday night and it wouldn't be complete if Andres didn't pour the famous Dirty Ashtray Sambucca Shooter. Invented in 1985 at the Eastport Raw Bar during a lull in the action on evening as the bar staff/manager/owner we're trying to concoct the world's most disgusting shooter. The only caveat was that you could remove the butts as they were tough to digest.
More pixs of that evening forthcoming.
Tailgate Like A Pro - Win This Truck

We've seen some great "tailgating" rides but this is over the top. Would look great in the Mango's parking lot. 5 Plasma TV's. Win this plus 7 tickets to the BCS National Championship Game on 1.7.2008. Compliments of Ford Motor.

WI-FI Detector Shirt

Perfect gift for the web surfing addict in the family. And you know who you are.
Wi-Fi Detector Shirt — Signal Status for You and the World!
Here at ThinkGeek we're pretty lazy when it comes to technology. We expect our gadgets to do all the busywork while we focus on the high level important tasks like reading blogs. That's why we hate to have to crack open our laptops just to see if there is any wi-fi internet access about... and keychain wi-fi detectors, we would have to actually remove them from our pockets to look at them. But now thanks to the ingenious ThinkGeek robot monkeys you can display the current wi-fi signal strength to yourself and everyone around you with this stylish Wi-Fi Detector Shirt. The glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the surrounding wi-fi signal strength fluctuates. Finally you can get the attention you deserve as others bow to you as their reverential wi-fi god, while geeky chicks swoon at your presence. You can thank us later.
Product Features:
Glowing animated shirt dynamically displays the current wi-fi signal strength
Animated decal is removable (Velcro fasteners) for easy washing
Battery pack is concealed in a small pocket sewn inside the shirt
Runs for hours off three AAA batteries (not included)
Shows signal strength for 802.11b or 802.11g
Black 100% cotton
$29.95 from Think Geek (which is just down the road in Fairfax, Va).
