Mango's is for lovers

Always nice to have couples book their weddings at Mango's, and I have had the pleasure of working with some great people looking to hold their most special of days here at Mango's. Heather and Rob were married here last June in our ocean view Veranda. It was a beatiful ceremony, and all of their guests frequented the Mango-bar for the entire week. We really had a great chance to meet some nice people. She promised that they would be back for their one year anniversary...and they held that promise. Here are some of the photos from this past weekend. I think it is sooo cool that they came back to celebrate their one year in the same spot they began their new life together. They were especially happy this weekend too....Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup! Cheers to you Heather and Rob...and we are looking forward to another year next June. Alex

The World's Most Expensive Bottles of Liquor

$1,060,000 - Diva Vodka
This bottle of vodka hails from Scotland and its price is the result of how much “bling” you want your bottle to have. The bottle can be encrusted with precious gems: diamonds, rubies, sapphires, etc. Blackwood Distillers makes this triple distilled vodka that is ice-filtered through Nordic birch charcoal and then for some reason is passed through a sand of crushed diamonds and other gems. Absolutely ridiculous, so let’s move on to the next item, which is almost just as ridiculous, but then after that it’s smooth sailing.

$255,000 - Spluch Tequila
The bottle is made of solid platinum and white gold which was unveiled in Mexico City on October 26, 2006. The bottle was purchased by a private collector on July 20, 2006. As a result of the sale, the Tequila Ley .925 company broke the Guinness World Records for the most expensive bottle of liquor sold.

$160,000 - Chateau Lafite 1787
This bottle originally purchased from France by Thomas Jefferson, who was an avid wine collector.
This bottle is a Bordeaux and was sold at an auction in 1985 to Christopher Forbes. Much of the value comes from the fact that Thomas Jefferson once owned this bottle — his initials are etched into it. You can read more about this wine and others (some on this list) here at Forbes.

Tiki not Tacky

Great article today in the Washington Post by Jason Wilson on Tiki Drinks and bars.

From the article:
"Tiki was a very unironic big night out," says Jeff "Beachbum" Berry, who has spent the last decade researching tiki culture and writing a series of tiki books, most recently "Sippin' Safari." "There wasn't anything kitschy about it at the time. It was an escape. In the 1940s, people didn't travel. A tiki bar was where the mid-century Organization Man went to escape his white-collar job, his big mortgage and the threat of nuclear annihilation."

VA's Fastest Bartender Contest

Thanks to everyone that came out to support Amy, Charles and Walter at the Fastest Bartender Competition. We didn't take home any hardware this year but we did break a few glasses and at least one Bottle... oh well next year. Our guys did great for their first time competing, it is much harder up there on the stage under the bright lights than you think.
Overall, it was a fun night, the people from the fastest bartender group, Miller Lite and Bacardi did an awesome job putting it together, thanks for all the drinks guys.

Mitsubishi - Selling more than cars.

The car giant has also cornered 40% share of the bluefin tuna market, the world's most endangered fish.

Rumor has it they are stockpiling tons of the tuna in massive freezers, so that in several years time they can be resold at astronomical prices when the supply/demand is off the charts.

Story here from a newspaper in the UK.
