Dinner in the Sky
Some new business ideas are admittedly over the top. Here's one we couldn't resist – Dinner in the Sky.
Belgian Dinner in the Sky offers event organizers a new way to make their event highly memorable: a table, with 22 seated guests, is suspended from a crane. The specially built table is surrounded by chairs of the type usually found on roller coasters, with four-point seat belts. Hoisted 164 feet above ground, safety is a reasonable concern.
Safely buckled up and floating mid-air, guests can enjoy a meal or meeting, with three chefs, waiters, presenters and/or entertainers standing in an open area in the centre of the table. One of the company's first events was a dinner for 22 chefs, hosted by San Pellegrino.
Table, crane, logistic and security staff are available for EUR 7900 for an eight hour session, which can be organized anywhere a large crane can be placed.
Selling a thrilling edge and aerial view, this could be the next big thing for Sweet Sixteen parties and corporate brainstorming session. One for the events industry to look into! Just don't look down...

Ash Wednesday Fresh Fish Special
In case you can't make it into Mango's for Fat Tuesday.
Stolen Laptop
It has been over a week since my last post, sorry for the gap but my laptop was stolen out of the office at Mango Mike's. I had a ton of photos, notes, menus, recipes so I am still pretty upset about the loss. The Alexandria Police have three suspects so it is just a matter of time before these local knuckleheads are apprehended. Below is a picture of the Alexandria CSI dusting for fingerprints. If you know anything about the laptop's location I am offering a cash reward for information leading to its safe return.
Meanwhile, life goes on and we have been busy at Mango's with our annual half price entrees January Special, planning for Mardi Gras, SuperBowl, Valentine's Day, Landshark Lager Release Party, and our new menu coming soon.
Since I am not holding my breath about my computer being returned, I did something I told myself I would never do, I GOT A MAC!!! Mango Mike is a lifelong Apple guy, and he talked me into trying out one of the new Macbooks. I guess I'll see how it goes.
Here is a pic of me with the new purchase. More posts, pics, and special promos to come, so keep checking the blog.
Restaurant Week
For the 12th year in a row the RAMW (Restaurant Association of Metro Washington) is sponsoring Restaurant Week where diners can enjoy a 3 course lunch for $20.08 or dinner for $30.08. Although we're not participating this year Mango's is doing Restaurant Month with our Half Price Entrees, which is even a better deal.
I know you can't eat out at Mango's everyday, so I've posted a listing of those participating.

Get Organized
I need all athe organizational help I can get. I've got way too much STUFF and it was difficult to find the STUFF when I needed it. These small containers from Sterilite (model 1904) have been a lifesaver. Home Depot had them on sale last year for $1.47 each and I bought a 100. I've got them in the restaurant, the garage, the office and the bus storing everything from bank statements to relays. 7qt in size they measure 13 x 8 x 6.
This year they're on sale for only 99¢ at Home Depot. But hurry as they're only offered in January and once sold out none until next year.

Perhaps the Krispy Kreme on Rt 1 will start serving one with our Jerk Chicken.

MangoEttes in Florida for New Years
While everyone up here was celebrating hard, the Mangoettes and I took the camper to Florida for the holidays. Too cheap to do the whole Disney thing, I took the girls to Downtown Disney (free of course) for the New Years Eve celebration. I have to say Disney does it right. It was a great fireworks show coupled to some hip music. The downside was due to a huge crowd and warm night it took us and hour and half to get out of the parking lot. That's ok, like waiting for the ribs at Mango's, it's worth the wait.
New Years Eve at the Beach
Along with Mango Mike's in Alexandria, Bethany Beach had a big night with the live sounds of the Island Boyz (who have played there every New Years Eve for the last 8 years).
Everyone walks to Mango's so the OPEN BAR is not an issue.

One of the Worlds Most Famous Tiki Bars
From their website:
"When you step into the Tiki-Ti, (some call it the Tiki, the Ti, or sometimes the Tik) it's almost like stepping back in time. The bar is small -- only 12 stools, with a handful of tables against the walls -- but what it lacks in physical size it makes up for in menu size. There are 86 Tropical Drinks on offer, most of which simply can't be found anywhere else. Unfortunately we can't serve up a drink on the web, but we hope you enjoy this web site as we try to give you a little taste of what the Tiki-Ti is like when it is open."
The bar was opened in 1961 by master mixologist Ray Buhen, who was there at the start of the Tropical Drink craze at Don The Beachcomber’s legendary restaurant. His son and grandson, Michael and Mike Buhen now carry on his tradition; together, they practice the “Lost Art” of Exotic Cocktail mixing in the last of the great neighborhood tiki bars.
Go to their website and check this LA joint out. There's also a complete listing of all their 86 tropical drinks. They sell NO BEER or WINE. As they say you can get those at Mango Mike's.
